Koljonvirta – Historical place of battles and stories

The Koljonvirta area is located approximately 5 kilometers to north from the city center of Iisalmi, along the road to Oulu.

From the city center
Go north from the city center for approx. four kilometers, take the third exit from the traffic circle and drive for 500 meters more.

From Oulu
When arriving from the direction of Oulu Koljonvirta can be easily reached. The road from Oulu goes across the bridge of Koljonvirta towards Iisalmi. From the crossing to Kiuruvesi, drive 1,5 kilometers further.

From Kajaani
When arriving from Kajaani on the Finnish national road 5/European road 63 from north, climb up from the ramp which reads Kalajoki and Iisalmi. Drive 2,5 kilometers until you arrive at a traffic circle. Take the second turn to the right and drive 500 meters further.

Parking in the area
There are several parking lots in the area. The open-air summer theatre lot offers 72 spots. From the lot leads a beautiful path past the Koljonvirta guidance center and the statue of Dolgorugi right up to the museum of Juhani Aho and the open-air summer theatre.

Koljonvirta Opastuskeskus (info center)
Open during summertime. No entrance fee.
Old, wooden renovated homestead called Koljonvirta Opastuskeskus acts as the guidance center for the area. The center offers the following:

• Information about Koljonvirta area
• Koljonvirta-exhibition, which sheds light on the events of the Finnish war between 1808 -1809 and the battle of Koljonvirta
• A summer café which offers small snacks, pastries and beverages while enjoying atmosphere of the over two hundred year-old log building.
• The café also sells handcrafts
